Over the past 12 months the Williams Woolshed has begun its own fight on single use plastics. As Owners of the business we identified that our consumption and reliance of single use plastics was unsustainable and unsatisfactory. We decided to effect some instance changes to our business and begun sourcing alternative options to plastics, we quickly identified that the alternatives are readily available and easy to source so it was a no brainer that we moved down this path.
The first phase of this process was to remove all single use plastic straws, cutlery & Take- Away containers and replaced them with wax paper straws, bamboo cutlery & fiber/ cardboard Take- Away containers. The feedback we received from our customers was instant and very pleasing, we found that consumers are becoming more self aware of what they consume and how this impacts the environment.
The second phase of this fight was to tackle the plastics within in our Cool Drinks fridges, we begun consulting with our suppliers and put a plan in place to phase out the plastic drinking containers within those fridges. Once again upon researching and discussing with our suppliers we quickly identified that there are plenty of alternate options to plastics. Just last month we have now completed the phase out of Plastic drinking containers in our cool drinks fridges.
The positive impact has not just been on the environment but also our ability to manage our stock, drinks that are supplied in either glass or aluminum have a longer shelf life which allows us to carry more stock at any given time.
The fight doesn’t end here though the Williams Woolshed will continue to seek out alternatives to reduce our environmental impact, we are constantly looking for sustainable options across our entire business that will help us to achieve our goal of being a environmentally responsible cafe & business.
